I chose the topic of Privacy. I used the Gale Virtual Reference Library and found a very interesting article about how our privacy has changed and violated our Human Rights  after 9/11 and the introduction of the Patriot Act.

Summary:

I really liked this assignment, and I find the IRIS and GVRL sites to be a huge help, infact I feel like I have been cheating myself out of some good knowledge and resources. I use Brainstorming Bubbles a lot in my critical thinking process, and when it comes time to do papers, or project both for school and personal use

1.       Last summer, my family and I traveled to Chicago, which was quite different from the rural area I grew up in. We saw the dinosaur Sue at the Field Museum, and ate pizza at Gino's East.   A: Sited Correctly
2.       Americans want to create a more perfect union; they also want to establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for everybody.  A: Not sure of the context of this excerpt, If it is all personal opinion then it is fine. But If they are paraphrasing say a politicians speech or written address, then proper citation is needed.
3.       I find it ridiculous that 57% of high school students think their teachers assign too much homework. A: Needs to cite source of research quoted.
4.       Martin Luther King was certain that nobody would want to be contented with a surfacy type of social analysis that concerns itself only with effects and doesn't deal with root causes. A: Needs to be cited, they are paraphrasing Dr. Martin Luther King’s Thoughts in the letter.
5.       Martin Luther King wrote that the city of Birmingham's "white power structure" left African-Americans there "no alternative" but to demonstrate ("Letter from the Birmingham Jail" para. 5) A: needs to get rid of the two pair of quotes and combined the whole sentence as one
6.       In "Letter from the Birmingham Jail," King writes to fellow clergy saying that although they "deplore the demonstrations taking place in Birmingham, your statement fails to express a similar concern for the conditions that brought about the demonstrations." A: There is no word for word Quote, to the letter, so the quotes need to go, but citation is needed for the sentence.
7.       My friend Kara told me that she loves living so close to the ocean A: None needed
8.       Americans are guaranteed the right to freely gather for peaceful meetings. None Needed command knowledge to most
I I actually learned quite a bit in this exercise, I thought I had a pretty good grasp on when to cite things but turns out I was missing a few key things, like the Arguable Assertions and Im pretty sure that I mess up on how I am citing my Paraphrasing and summaries.

First Post

I think this assignment and class are going to be somewhat of a challenge, but a good one.

The video about the history of blogging was short but pretty informational, I enjoyed learning about where Blogs came from.

The video about how to create your blog on here was OK, but really short. there is a definite learning curve when setting this up. I hope I did it right.
